- Chronological
- When events are told in a linear order, or, in the order that they occurred.
- Colonization
- When an outside group of people settle and establish control over a local group of people, to expand power and take resources, at the expense of the local people.
- Contemporary Dance
- A modern style of dance that mixes different techniques of ballet and jazz, while emphasizing freedom of movement and expression.
- Desi
- A term for people or culture from South Asia, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
- Ensemble
- A group of performers who work together as equals to create a show.
- Masculinity
- The things (traits or characteristics) that make someone a man.
- Monologue
- A longer speech in a play by one character.
- Musical Theatre
- A play with a story that is mostly sung and danced by the actors.
- Patriarchy
- A social system where men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.
- Podcast
- An audio entertainment program or broadcast, usually centered over conversation, that is distributed digitally.
- Puppetry
- Performing with puppets to tell a story or entertain an audience.
- Queer
- Sexual and gender identities that do not correspond to established ideas of attraction and gender; 2SLGBTQ+
- Rodgers and Hammerstein
- An American duo of musical theatre writers and composers, known for their famous Broadway musicals of the 1940s-1960s, including The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and The King and I.
- Skit
- A simple, short, often funny scene for a play.
- Song Cycle
- A group of individual songs performed in a specific sequence.
- Spoof
- A funny, exaggerated imitation of a larger genre or style, to mock and make fun of common and overused stories.
- Shakespeare
- A famous English writer, known for his poetic plays in Early Modern English, including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
- Sketch Comedy
- Short, humourous scenes of one to ten minutes, performed by a group of actors.
- Stand-Up Comedy
- A comedian performs on stage, telling jokes and interacting with the crowd.
- Tribute
- Something, for example, a show that honours someone as a sign of respect and admiration.
- Unforgettable
- Something remarkable and impossible to forget; the 2026 Fringe Festival theme.
- Variety Show
- A set of different, often funny, short performances.
- Verbal Comedy
- Humour that relies on clever words, jokes, and dialogue rather than physical actions.
