At This Hour

Direct from Halifax, At This Hour is a docudrama investigation that explores the causes of the Halifax explosion.
In 1917, two ships collided in Halifax Harbour. The resulting massive explosion killed approximately 2000 people. It was the largest human made explosion before the atomic bomb. Within hours of the disaster Ottawa ordered a full investigation and the Wreck Commissioner’s Inquiry began the following week.
Constructed like an open seminar, the performers are documentarians and use verbatim text from the transcripts of the inquiry to tell the story of the explosion. Created with and for the Deaf and Blind/Partially Sighted communities, hearing and Deaf casts perform the show simultaneously.
At This Hour was created by Hallfax’s Zuppa Theatre in partnership with Signs of the Maritimes Deaf Theatre Troupe, CNIB and The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
