Filmmaking for Artists

Hosted by Deaf filmmakers Alexandra Hickox, Ebony R. Gooden, and Katarina Ziervogel, this two-day workshop offers an exciting opportunity for Deaf artists interested in exploring filmmaking. Participants will learn the skills and techniques necessary to create compelling videos and films through interactive activities, group discussions, and practical demonstrations.
The workshop will begin with a brief but engaging session for all participants to brainstorm ideas. The Deaf artists will be able to partake in a fun challenge to make a short video based on a theme (to be announced at the workshop). In addition, the participants will learn how to demonstrate their artistic abilities in a demo reel for their portfolio.
Once the participants have learned the basics of videography, they will
be given a demonstration on videotaping, editing a theatrical play, and
live-streaming it online. We also will provide a short presentation on
understanding the differences between playwriting and
screenwriting.
Aside from technical aspects, the participants will also learn helpful
tips on gaining better videography results. The workshop will conclude
with a discussion on submitting a good audition tape, including an
overview of industry terms such as slate and full-body. Participants
will leave with the newly- acquired skills and knowledge necessary to
continue pursuing their passion for filmmaking and take their careers to
the next level!
This is a 2-day workshop, held on 2023-04-01 10:30 AM and 2023-04-02 10:30 AM. Purchasing a ticket to the workshop on 2023-04-01 10:30 AM will also gain you access to the second workshop on 2023-04-02 10:30 AM.
