Devising Devising with Brett Dahl

Devising Devising is a course for devising work from the ground up.
Interested in movement, writing or theatre creation? This is the workshop for you!
In this workshop, we will be building scores or text from simple exercises that are performer generated - no experience necessary.
Please wear movement-friendly clothes and bring materials to write (paper/pen).
Brett Dahl - Brett Dahl (they/them) is a queer, Métis, and gender-non conforming non-binary theatre artist based in Alberta, often working between Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton), Mohkinstsis (Calgary), and Sikoohkotoki (Lethbridge/Blackfoot Territory).
Primarily a director, writer, and actor, Brett also works as a dramaturg, teacher, producer, administrator and drag performer. They have worked with theatre organizations across Canada and is currently the Artistic Director of Theatre Outré, Southern Alberta’s only queer theatre. Brett also hosts and curates the pop-up queer cabaret Sissy Fit. They focus on reclaiming, revisiting, and reimagining classical texts through a modern lens as well as developing new work.
Brett is the proud recipient of the 2018 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and the 2020 RBC Emerging Artist Cultural Leader in Calgary Award. Brett holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Directing and a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta.
Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can. Suggested Workshop Price $20
At
Azimuth Theatre, we believe art should be accessible to all, regardless
of financial circumstances. That’s why all of our tickets are based on a
Pay-What-You-Can model. We understand that everyone’s situation is
different, so we leave it up to you to determine the value of your
experience.
While we suggest a ticket price to help cover
production costs and support our artists, we understand that this may
not be feasible for everyone. Whether you can give more or less, what
matters most to us is that you join us in experiencing the magic of
theatre together. No matter the amount, your contribution is valued and
appreciated. Your support enables us to create meaningful connections,
spark important conversations, and inspire change through the power of
storytelling.
