Founded by Dr. Dasha Goody, Edmonton Musical Theatre (EMT) is a performance-training organization unique to Western Canada. EMT is unique in that it is an independent, non-profit society without affiliation with any educational institution or with any amateur theatre. EMT is dedicated solely to educating its students to the highest degree of professionalism in the area of musical theatre arts. While not all of our students pursue theatre careers, many have entered into the professional fields of stage, television and radio. Regardless of whether or not our students pursue active careers in entertainment, their experience at EMT empowers them with a greater appreciation of the arts, a sense of achievement and personal growth, and a new level of confidence. Many of EMT’s alumni have gone on to pursue professional careers in the Arts and Entertainment field. We are delighted to have returning alumni join us for this event highlighting Bernard Quilala and Davy Damo.
Bernard Quilala has been a Top 16 competitor on both Popstars: The One and the 2004 season of Canadian Idol. His participation in the 2008 David Foster Star Search led to the meeting with acapella band and fellow Top 5 finalists, Epsilon, of which he is now a member. In April 2010, Bernard opened a concert for the incomparable Michael Bolton and followed that amazing experience up by singing backup for Johnny Reid at the 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards. Bernard has also been fortunate enough to share the stage with American Idol Winner and recording artist, Ruben Studdard in 2011’s, Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree.
Davy Damo is a vocalist/musician and graduate of the Grant MacEwan Music program majoring in Performing and Recording arts. He has had the opportunity to perform with Alfie Zappacosta, Jack Semple, and sang back-up for Johnny Reid live on CBC for the 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards. He also performed with the 2011 Singing Christmas Tree featuring American Idol’s Ruben Studdard. He is also a “Live Music” event producer, launching “ 3D Entertainment” in the fall of 2013.
