Born Between Waves
SOUND OFF: A Deaf Theatre Festival
Born Between Waves is a Deaf-led performance exploring identity, ancestry, and the in-between. Performed by Gaitrie Persaud as Rohenee, the piece follows her journey of connecting with her ancestors while grappling with her identity as a Deaf Indo-Caribbean woman. Moving between sound and silence, past and present, Rohenee confronts inherited histories, displacement, and belonging—searching for grounding in a world that often demands singularity.
Through movement, visual language, and embodied storytelling, Born Between Wave transforms struggle into rhythm and remembrance, honoring ancestral resilience while carving space for Deaf futures.
