Witches in the Closet
In 1691, two 15 year olds, Lenora and Corinna, are prosecuted for witchcraft due to sharing a kiss. Lucky for them, Lenora’s father is the head of the church and makes special arrangements for both of the girls. However, their fates are not quite as they hoped, and they are forced to make difficult choices. This coming-of-age historical romance musical follows the girls after their life-altering event, as they keep secrets and battle with their emotions of love and guilt.
The musical explores the complexity of queer relationships and female friendships. Although the show is set in a historical context, the themes it highlights are relevant to today. Women continue to be stripped of their rights and bodily autonomy as well as LGBTQIA+ individuals, who face hatred on regular basis, threatening their safety. For an industry typically thought of as woman-dominated, there are few theatrical roles for women (particularly in musicals). Ultimately, we need we need more queer stories and stories about women in the theatre space.
Witches in the Closet is about two girls named Lenora and Corinna. Set in 1691, the two are being tried for witchcraft because of a kiss they shared. After, Lenora and Corinna keep secrets and battle with their emotions in this coming-of-age historical romance musical.
