Tita Jokes is a musical comedy about our Filipina elders, our Titas. A love letter to our mothers, sisters, Lolas and friends, the show explores Filipina heartache and resiliency and how we cope through humour, story and song.

TROUPE BIO:

Tita Collective is an all-Filipina collective composed of award-winning playwrights, comedians, musicians, dancers, theatre makers and actors, based in Toronto, Canada. We explore different mediums to tell the stories about the Filipin* diaspora.

They have won several awards, including the 2023 Second City Outstanding Comedy Award, 2022 BroadwayWorld Toronto Awards - Best Ensemble Performance (Professional), 2022 & 2023 Just For Laughs Award at the Montreal Sketch Comedy Festival, 2019 Steamwhistle Producers’ Pick at the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Best Newcomer at the Montreal Sketch Comedy Festival, the Second City Outstanding New Comedy Award and Patrons’ Pick at the 2019 & 2023 Toronto Fringe Festival. They were featured in the “19 Asian Millennial Women You Should Know” listing by Cold Tea Collective, and in Spotify Canada’s “Need Women” campaign for Women’s History Month.

They have performed with notable artists, including Sam Milby (ABS-CBN/The Filipino Channel), Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change (Just for Laugh Toronto).

Individually, Tita Collective are: AP Bautista (Tell Tale Harbour), Belinda Corpuz (Narnia), Ellie Posadas (Scarborough), Alia Rasul (15 Ways My Dad Almost Died), and Maricris Rivera (Short Dances).

Plain Language Description

Tita Jokes is a musical sketch comedy about our Filipina elders, our Titas. The show consists of many short sketches where we play different characters. It will cover different themes; families, heartbreak, our bodies, immigration, queerness, and more. It is a love letter to our mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and friends. This show will have you laughing, singing and dancing with us!
