Ghost Quartet
By Dave Malloy of Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 fame.
Ghost Quartet is a haunted song cycle of love, jealousy, reincarnation and lots of whiskey. Structured like a "live concept album," four storytellers weave a unique musical mash up of spooky time-travelling tales that jump across the centuries: the Arabian Nights, a Grimm-like fable, the world of Edgar Allan Poe and 20th century NYC. Drawing on eclectic musical styles like folk, jazz, country, pop and murder ballads, Ghost Quartet is an immersive dream-like meditation on storytelling and the nature of human connection. It’s like we’re telling scary stories around the campfire...indoors.
Four friends share a ghost story about two sisters across time, space and centuries. With music inspired by folk, jazz, country, pop, and murder ballads, Ghost Quartet is a dream-like musical about stories and connection. A song cycle is a group of individual songs performed in a specific sequence.
