The Song Collector

The Song Collector is an immersive video-based theatrical installation, inspired by folk song collector Lucy Broadwood. Step inside Lucy’s room, where you are welcome to browse her collection – and add to it.

Lucy Broadwood (1858-1929)’s story is unique, because it’s not just about music. As an upper class unmarried woman, she was an exception and way ahead of her time. Through playing the organ in her local church, she got to meet the local working men and persuaded them to share their songs with her. She collected many folk songs, songs about love, work, politics and desire. Songs that were shared within communities, thus storing their collective memories. What’s your song memory?

Lucy Broadwood (1858-1929) was a folk song collector, writing down the lyrics and notes of songs so they wouldn't be forgotten. In 'The Song Collector' you get to hear Lucy's story via video, while you look around in her room. And there is also a song collection box where you can share your own music memories with others.
