False Profits
They promised the wealth would trickle down, and when we turned our backs they pissed in our cups.
FALSE PROFITS shines a light on a wealthy class that has spent years pulling strings in the dark and drags them out from their hiding place for all to see. In the daylight they look less like Atlas preparing to shrug and more like a divorcee in a cowboy hat who bought a penis shaped rocket to ride into space. The creator of SPERM WARS and THE SHOW MUST GO ON brings a new solo comedy that takes aim at the rich and powerful in this satire of excess and greed.
Jeff Leard draws a line from the oil and gas industry through Ronald Reagan's trickle down economics into the bought and sold politicians of today - and skewers the lot of them with wit as sharp as a miniature rapier piercing the olives of a $600 dollar martini charged to the Canadian taxpayers at a business lunch between a Premier and an Exxon Mobile executive.
★★★★1/2 "First rate performance... forceful, sharp, and incisive" - Times Colonist
★★★★★ "Jeff Leard is magnificent" - Edmonton Journal
False Profits is a solo comedy about the billionaires that have ground the world to a halt for their own personal enrichment. It centres around the oil magnate and arch conservative Charles Koch, the owner of Koch Industries, which is the largest privately owned oil company in America. The story follows his rise, his disregard for human life and environmental safety, the failures of trickle down economics, and paints a picture of how Charles Koch shaped much of the wealth inequality and environmental destruction that we are dealing with today.
