Cavalleria rusticana
Celebrating 10 years of Pop Goes The Opera with the highly rated show that started it all. Cavalleria rusticana is a snippet of post-war Italy where a tale of love, jealousy, betrayal and revenge is told through some of the most stunning verismo operatic music written. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Turiddu returns from war. His first love, Lola, married another but continues to engage in an affair with him. Santuzza, Turiddu's discarded lover, feels that he only seduced her to make Lola jealous and feels ashamed. Santuzza tearfully asks him to take her back only to be told no. Santuzza tells Lola's husband of the affair. Lola's husband challenges Turiddu to a duel and in true operatic style the tenor is killed amidst the stunning chords of Mascagni's masterful score.
