Cavalleria rusticana

Celebrating 10 years of Pop Goes The Opera with the highly rated show that started it all. Cavalleria rusticana is a snippet of post-war Italy where a tale of love, jealousy, betrayal and revenge is told through some of the most stunning verismo operatic music written. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Turiddu returns from war. His first love, Lola, married another but continues to have an affair with him. Santuzza, Turiddu's ex-lover, feels that he only flirted with her to make Lola jealous and feels bad. Santuzza tearfully asks him to take her back, but is told no. Santuzza tells Lola's husband of the affair. Lola's husband challenges Turiddu to a duel and as in most operas, the tenor is killed while the music plays on. true operatic style the tenor is killed amidst the stunning chords of Mascagni's masterful score.
