Gemini - Chinook 2019

Chinook - The Almanac

Theatre

Written by Louise Casemore
Directed by Mitchell Cushman
Starring Louise Casemore and Vern Thiessen

She’s a bartender.
He’s a regular.
They have nothing in common except they’re both there. Every day.

After a sold out run at the 2017 Edmonton International Fringe Festival, Defiance Theatre returns home with a brand new production of GEMINI. A comedic exploration of the peculiar relationships forged on both sides of the bar, Casemore and Thiessen will be calling The Almanac home as part of the Chinook Series for a whiskey soaked night out that won’t be soon forgotten. An honest and unflinching love letter to hospitality in a post “Me Too” world, the new full length production will also serve as an exciting homecoming for “the sorcerer of site-specific theatre”, Mitchell Cushman. Grab a drink, settle in, and get tied up in the bonds of dependency and boredom. Created with countless interviews, research, blurry mornings, and over a decade of personal experience in the service industry, we invite you to belly up to the bar and ask yourself who really holds the power here. WINNER – Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award: Outstanding New Fringe Work, Louise Casemore. NOMINEE – Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award: Outstanding Performance by A Fringe Actor, Vern Thiessen

Imbibe, bear witness, or intervene, with what Liz Nicholls calls an “uncannily seductive two hander”.

Part fairytale, part cautionary tale. (Don't forget to tip your server.)
